Global citizenship: New journey for HIPSIR students

Global citizenship is a concept promoted by Father General Arturo Sosa, SJ, to educate people on world citizenship and recognize diversity as a constitutive dimension of a fully human life. IJAU, or the International Association of Jesuit Universities, educates students at Jesuit-founded tertiary institutions about global citizenship.

This year, HISPIR participated in it. On Saturday, September 21st, the course officially began for HIPSIR students. Seven peace studies and International Relations students are taking it online with Dr. Elisee Rutagambwa, SJ, as their supervisor. The courses have four lectures and readings. Every student also has to attend an online global student dialogue that will bring together every student around the world who participates in the program.

The goal is that they exchange ideas and perspectives from their personal experience. As the Dean told them, the participation of HISPIR students will shape their knowledge and experience in International Relations and human rights. He added that it is an opportunity for Africans to talk about their perspectives on global citizenship. They will have the chance to discuss how to better implement the global citizenship concept within the reality of Africa.
