The basic unit of the college organization is the academic department. Each academic department has departmental chair with wide ranging responsibilities. Academic departments are organized into schools. The university college has two schools, each with its own dean: School of Theology and the School of Peace Studies and International Relations. Academic deans report directly to the DPAA. Opportunities for faculty and students to influence governance are provided through the following units:

In addition, faculty are involved in the HUC strategic planning process and students also serve as members on a number of university college committees.
