About the Office of the DPAA
Welcome to the Office of the Deputy Principal in charge of Academic Affairs at Hekima University College. The Academic Division of HUC is headed by Deputy Principal for Academic Affairs. HUC values academic excellence, research and holistic development. The DPAA section of HUC strives to be the driving force in the efficient and effective management of academic programmes. The core function of the DPAA section is to provide quality education and promote scholarship that by large promote Academic excellence. Similarly, the section strives to create conducive environment for holistic development and mentorship of students who are capable of critical thinking and are able to independently claim their position in the global society.
Throughout history, from the foundational beginnings of the Society of Jesus, higher learning institutions and especially universities have been opened to the young and old, brilliant and curious minds dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge, truth, and rational inquiry. Our university college has a long-standing tradition of providing quality education and we are proud of the achievements of our graduates who are making significant contributions to various fields both locally and internationally. HUC offers opportunities aimed at providing you with an environment in which to grow and realize your full potential as well; as the esteem and responsibility with which being a member of the Jesuit University carries with it. In the management of academic programmes, our guiding principal is “a constant search for excellence, a humanistic orientation of education, a holistic formation inclusive of spiritual values, and a service to the community through promotion of Justice.”
In line with this commitment, we strive to meet and if possible exceed the demands of our internal and external beneficiaries and stakeholders. Our key beneficiaries are our students. Our desire is to ensure that students graduating from HUC have a strong foundation in the search for truth, a strong ethical foundation, a sense of responsibility, proficiency in the use of technology, a global perspective and desire to unpuzzle the riddles of life through a lifelong contextual, reflective, innovative, and creative approach to learning.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Deputy Principal for Academic Affairs
To this end, as per HUC Statutes, the duties and responsibilities of the Deputy Principal for Academic Affairs are:
- Promote and coordinate all matters regarding studies in the entire College, and provide for their needs
- Liaise with and foster co-operation among the various academic deans and directors of institutes relevant to the academic programmes of HUC.
- prepare the meetings of the Academic Board
- admit or exclude students in the name of the Principal and through the QA Committee according to the relevant norms
- provide, in consultation with the Principal, and supervise the job description for academic deans and heads
- see that the instructions of higher authorities are carried out.
- Carry out other duties and responsibilities as may be delegated by the Principal.
Going forward:
In the academic year 2023/2024, our emphasis was on running the existing programmes effectively as we celebrated 40 years of fruitful existence.
For the Academic Year 2024/2025, with the theme: “Re-imagining Power Dynamics in the Ecclesial and Socio-Political Loci: Lessons from Vatican II, Ecclesia in Africa, and Synod on Synodality” our focus has been to ensure that HUC remains committed to scholarly excellence that promotes contextual and global Theology in a global society. Through this we hope to participate in all four of the universal apostolic preferences, which are very much at play in the Jesuits universities: “sharing the pathway to God, walking with the excluded, accompanying young people in constructing a hope-filled future, and collaborating in care for our common home” (Arturo Sosa, SJ in his talk to the Presidents and Board Chairs of North American Universities and Provincials on April 6 in Chicago). We hope to make these preferences the main criteria for guiding research, teaching, community service, and collaboration in our pursuit towards academic excellence.
